TASM (Turbo Assembler) is a classic x86 assembler designed for writing low-level software with precise control over hardware and performance. It supports 16-bit code and, in later versions, 32-bit x86 development, making it useful for both historical and educational projects as well as performance-critical routines.

Key features:

  • MASM-compatible and IDEAL syntax modes for flexible coding styles
  • Powerful macro and conditional assembly facilities
  • Support for structured data, procedures, and modular code organization
  • Output to COM and EXE formats, with standard linker compatibility
  • Fast assembly times and clear diagnostic messages

Common uses:

  • Learning and teaching x86 assembly language
  • Retrocomputing and maintaining legacy DOS/Windows software
  • Systems programming, boot loaders, and low-level utilities
  • Hand-optimized routines for tight performance constraints

TASM runs natively on DOS-era systems and can be used on modern machines via DOS emulation tools such as DOSBox.

TASM is developed by Archon Engineering, PC. The most popular version of this product among our users is 5.4. The names of program executable files are DOSBox.exe, DOSBoxPortable.exe, TASM 5.0.exe and TASM.EXE.
